Graduate Recruitment

Since 2007 Blinkhorns have operated a Graduate Recruitment programme. The programme commences in August/September each year and we take on 2/3 new members of staff who wish to study for their ACA qualifications. We provide a study package for the ACA complimented by in house training and seek to give our recruits a varied practical experience of both accounts and tax work during the duration of their training contract.

At Blinkhorns we really value our graduates and what they bring as individuals to the firm.

As a graduate you will interact with a wide range of staff on a daily basis from Bookkeepers to the Senior Partners, meaning you will gain valuable insight in to a broad range of areas that will allow you to develop a useful understanding of how the world of accountancy and business operates.

Alongside working day to day, you will study for your ACA exams with a study package and training contract provided. You will also receive in house training in more practical areas to enable you to become a well-rounded and confident Chartered Accountant.

Whilst we are predominantly a Media and Entertainment firm, experience in this area is not a pre-requisite, although an interest or awareness is useful. We would, however, expect you to have some experience in accounting or finance. We also have a wide range of other clients from property investors to technology companies so you will gain an insight in to how individuals and limited companies in other industries operate.

Once qualified many of our graduates choose to stay with us to develop further skills. Some have gone on to be Managers and Partners, whilst others have chosen to study in specialist areas such as CTA.

Current Vacancies

Position : Senior Accountant

You will be responsible for managing a portfolio of clients providing high quality compliance and business services for a range of private clients including high net worth individuals, directors of small and medium sized companies.

This is a new role within a growing team and for the right candidate there could be progression to a Manager.

The successful Senior Accountant will report to the Managers responsible for the portfolio of one of the firm’s equity partners and undertake a wide range of general accounting duties including:

Review of FRS 105 and FRS 102 1A financial statements prepared by trainees

Computation of both personal and corporation taxes and the submission of the relevant returns with HMRC

Preparation of financial statements for FRS 102 and more complex FRS 102 1A companies

Preparation and review of VAT returns

Working closely with managers and partners to ensure quality of output and efficiency of procedures

Actively engaging with senior staff/partners to gain a good understanding of the business and clients

Offer support and training to clients using cloud accounting software and helping them to transition from their current systems

Attending client meetings as required

Mentoring more Junior Accountants and Trainees

Review and submission of company secretarial work and statutory books as required

Review of audit work dependent on experience

Other adhoc work

Essential Skills and Experience

ACA/ACCA Qualified with more than 1 years post qualification experience in a small/medium sized practice

Excellent and up to date technical knowledge

Ability to solve problems quickly and effectively for clients and colleagues

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with clients

Experience using software including Xero, Quickbooks Online, CCH Audit Automation, CCH Central, CCH Personal and Corporation tax, CCH Accounts Production and Working Papers

Position : Payroll Administrator

This is a client facing role and you will be part of a team responsible for:

700/800 payrolls – (weekly/monthly/bi annual)

Size range of employees from 1-2 director only up to 50 employees

Essential Skills and Experience

2-3 years minimum experience in a similar role

Knowledge of year end, auto enrolment & day to day payroll procedures

Experience of working with Sage Payroll

Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office

The ability to work under minimal supervision

Good team player able to interact at all levels of organisation

Position : Bookkeeper

This is a client facing role forming part of a team working for one of the equity partners. You will be working on a varied client base including clients in the media and entertainment, property development and technology sectors. You will be responsible for:

Sales and Purchase Ledger processing using cloud accounting software

Regular reconciliations of Balance Sheet Accounts

Preparing accounts to TB stage at the year end with supporting reconciliations

VAT and month end reporting (including Making Tax Digital submissions)

Recognising and highlighting VAT issues to clients to ensure they are compliant with the relevant rules and regulations

Offer support to clients using cloud accounting software and helping them to transition from their current systems

Ad hoc client queries

You will be expected to work with the Accounts Preparation Team to ensure that processes and communication with clients is efficient and positive in achieving the above. This includes the use of new technology and applications.

Essential Skills and Experience

Practice background – 7/8 years experience minimum

Experience of working with Xero/Quickbooks Online

Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office

The ability to work under minimal supervision

Working knowledge of VAT legislation

Good team player able to interact at all levels of organisation

Excellent attention to detail

Good communication and time management skills

The ability to work efficiently and adapt to new technologies to improve effectiveness
